Today is National Let’s Laugh Day, which is apropos since Red Nose Day in the U.K. happened Friday. If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s a telethon put on by Comic Relief, a charity founded in 1985 by Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry focused on alleviating poverty.
Enjoy this sampling of some of my favorite sketches from the show (the Kylie Minogue one is from this year; the whole thing hasn’t been posted as far as I’ve seen, but you can watch sketches from this year and previous years here), and laugh. Can’t let a holiday directive go unfulfilled.
Rowan Atkinson is a treasure, indeed.

All he needs to do is use a single facial expression to make me guffaw.

Rat Race was one of my favorites, with an all-comedy cast.

Almost missed it. That would have been a shame; I don’t laugh nearly enough.

It’s hard to laugh here, considering all our governor and Legislature are getting up to.

But so many members of the Arkansas General Assembly are behaving like clowns who are being controlled by an evil puppeteer from behind the scenes.

Bozo the Clown would probably do a better job than some current members (not to mention any names) of the General Assembly.

If we make a copy of Bozo, would the copy be Bozo the Clone?

Would funny Alka-Seltzer or funny Rolaids or funny Tums be considered “comic relief”?
