Sunday snowy (or not)

The street was covered. The yards ... not so much.

Oh, how we love snow in Arkansas. Yeah, I couldn’t really say that with a straight face, though I don’t know that what we got Friday really qualifies … especially since in my area we tend to get a layer of ice, then snow … and then more ice once it melts and refreezes. Tons of fun to walk on.

There's stuff out there, Mom. You should stay in here with me and not go to work.

Luke spent at least the first part of the day staring out the window. I can only imagine what he was thinking … other than “Gee, I’m glad I’m an inside cat and don’t have to freeze my fuzzy tuchis off out there.”)

Hey, cat! You in the window! Make your human let me in! Image found on SillyCool.

And it didn't take long at all. When the paw's cold, the cat stays in. Image found on veryfunnypics.

  1. I love Robert B. Parker’s Spencer commenting on Washington D.C. being paralyzed by an inch of snow: “In Boston, we would have said the storm missed us.” That was my Vermont snarkiness when experiencing my first Arkansas “snow storm.” Now I huddle by the fire and wonder if we’ll survive until someone digs us out.

  2. This man who was born and raised in Chicago can say with a crooked face (instead of a straight one) that he just absolutely loves snow. Seriously, I do not miss struggling through three feet of snow just to get to school.

    • I still remember my first trip to Chicago when we were dropped off at the Art Institute, but the snow and ice were so bad by the time we got ready to leave that the bus wouldn’t run … a bunch of Arkansas teens trudging 14 blocks back to the hotel … gosh, but that was fun. 😉

Back when we were little, snow days were great because we didn’t have to do anything. As adults, though … where the hell’s our snow day???

  3. I feel the same way as Luke does about snow. I used to get excited about snow until we lived in Kansas and I had to shovel out our driveway many times. I’m glad Friday’s snow day was just one day. I rode with my husband to work downtown, and our son held down the fort at home with the pets since he didn’t have school. This morning I fought the wind on my 3 1/2 block walk to the office from my parking spot. Happy winter, y’all!

    • I worked at home till about 10, and I still slid a little on the way in. I think the winter I spent in Jonesboro during which I kept sliding backwards down a hill (front-wheel drive only does so much on some hills) near my friend’s house. Luckily there was an unpaved back road I could use to get into work … sheesh!

  4. Being retired, I just kick back and enjoy the pretty snow out the back window. The cat that believes he can fly … what on earth is he doing? Jumping at a snowball? I can’t tell but it’s hilarious.
